Experience the Legendary Mount Wilson Downhill

Experience the best downhill riding in Los Angeles with the LifeRush Mount Wilson Downhill Shuttle.

This gravity shuttle service gives riders access to some of the most iconic mountain bike trails in the San Gabriel Mountains without the long climb to the top. Starting in the foothills near Altadena and Arcadia, riders are transported up the scenic ridge along the Angeles Crest Highway where several legendary descents begin.

From there the reward begins — thousands of feet of continuous downhill riding through rugged mountain terrain, scenic ridgelines, and historic singletrack trails.

Each run can deliver up to 4,000 feet of descending, making Mount Wilson one of the longest and most exciting downhill rides in Southern California.

Riders can choose between one, two, or three runs in a single morning, allowing you to maximize your ride time and explore different sections of the mountain.

Choose Your Mount Wilson Descent

Frontside Classic

The most famous Mount Wilson downhill route.

This legendary ride typically links together:

Mount Lowe East → Sam Merrill Trail → Sunset Ridge → El Prieto

Expect fast ridgeline singletrack, historic railway trail sections, sweeping canyon views, and a long descent back toward Altadena.

Approximate vertical descent: 3,500–4,000 feet

Red Box Gabrielino Route

A scenic canyon descent starting near Red Box along the Angeles Crest Highway.

The Gabrielino Trail winds through shaded forest terrain and flowing singletrack as it descends through the Arroyo Seco canyon.

This route offers beautiful mountain scenery and a slightly smoother ride while still delivering a long downhill experience.

Skill level: Intermediate

Mount Wilson Darkside

For experienced riders seeking a more technical and adventurous descent.

Starting near the summit area close to the Mount Wilson Observatory, the Darkside route features steep terrain, rocky sections, and remote backcountry riding.
